Overview


The English Language and Literature Department is one of the very first departments to start welcoming students at the Faculty of Al-Alsun, Suez Canal University (SCU).

Vision


The English Language and Literature Department aims to stay up to date with the continuous change in the academic programs and the tremendous technological advancement, as the department has taken the responsibility to support and encourage modern studies, cultural exchange, critical thinking, and innovative academic curriculums.

Mission


To support the general mission of Suez Canal University to promote cultural awareness in the Suez Canal Region, the department offers academic programs especially designed to raise awareness about the English language and help the students to know the culture of the English-speaking countries in depth.
The department aims to graduate students who are capable of advancing in their careers and adding value to society. The department's main goal is to graduate individuals who have mastered the English language - written and oral and are fully aware of the culture and literature. Thus, the graduate will be a critical thinker and knowledge holder, besides being able to participate in society as a translator, teacher, and more.

Goals:

  • Graduating students of excellent English proficiency, written and spoken.
  • Supplying the students with rich academic material to help them become professional translators.
  • Empowering the students to understand and comprehend the cultures of the different civilizations by criticizing them and finding similar aspects related to our culture.


 

Undergraduates

Education system

  • The faculty’s education language is according to specialization language (English – French- Chinese- etc.) except for Arabic courses and the second language.
  • The student is allowed to enroll 12 credit hours (minimum) and 18-20 credit hours (maximum) per semester (spring-summer) according to the curriculum plan for different specializations.
  • The student must attend not less than 75% of the course’s total hours.
  • The student can add or remove one course or more until the 3rd week of the spring semester or until the 2nd week of the summer semester.
  • The absence percentage is calculated in added courses starting from the day of enrollment.
  • The course’s grade is out of 100. The minimum grade to pass any course is 50 out of 100.
  • For any student to pass any course must achieve 40% of the course’s total grade or she will be considered to fail with (BF) grade.
