Overview

China has achieved tremendous scientific development over the last century. Consequently, the Chinese language has become the second most spoken language in the world and people have become more interested in learning the language, especially in Egypt and the Arab world.

The Chinese Language Department at the Faculty of Alsun, Suez Canal University (SCU) is considered a brilliant center of attraction for whoever wants to learn the Chinese language in the Canal region, where the department serves the students of Ismailia, Suez, Portsaid, Al Sharqiyah, and more. The department has a league of brilliant specialized Egyptian and Chinese professors.
The department offers a wide range of Chinese programs that help the students master the language from beginner level to advanced level. It also offers the students the chance to practice the language in all the possible ways; reading, writing, and listening. The offered courses are Conversation, Listening, Text, Essay, Literature, Linguistics, and Civilization.
In addition, the department focuses on translation courses to qualify the students for the marketplace after graduation. The department partners with Confucius Institute at SCU in organizing and hosting various cultural events, such as symposiums, competitions, and festivals. The department also organizes student exchange programs and summer camps for interested students. These activities contribute to enhancing the student's language level as it exposes them to the native environment and raw culture of the Chinese people.
The department also provides the students with the chance to participate in the summer training hosted by the Chinese companies located in the Egyptian-Chinese Economic Partnership regions.

Undergraduates

Education system

  • The faculty’s education language is according to specialization language (English – French- Chinese- etc.) except for Arabic courses and the second language.
  • The student is allowed to enroll in 12 credit hours (minimum) and 18-20 credit hours (maximum) per semester (spring-summer) according to the curriculum plan for different specializations.
  • The student must attend not less than 75% of the course’s total hours.
  • The student can add or remove one course or more until the 3rd week of the spring semester or until the 2nd week of the summer semester.
  • The absence percentage is calculated in added courses starting from the day of enrollment.
  • The course’s grade is out of 100. The minimum grade to pass any course is 50 out of 100.
  • For any student to pass any course must achieve 40% of the course’s total grade or she will be considered to fail with (BF) grade.
